WELLNESS VISITS

We are committed to providing the best patient care to your pets. This includes routine wellness physical exams and exams for sick patients.

Physical exams are very important throughout an animal’s life. Since they cannot speak to tell us when something is not normal, it is important that the veterinarian is able to routinely examine your pet.

Puppies and Kittens:

For puppies and kittens we recommend exams at a minimum 8 weeks of age with continuing visits of 2-3 week intervals to complete vaccination protocol.  Puppies and kittens are rapidly growing and early detection of disease or growth abnormalities are needed to ensure the best possible outcome.

Adult Dogs and Cats:

For healthy adult dogs and cats, we recommend annual wellness exams along with proper vaccinations and preventative care.

For dogs age 7 years and older and cats 9 years and older, we recommend bi-yearly physical exams and yearly lab work.  This is very important and early detection is needed to ensure the best treatment needed.

Vaccinations:

Vaccinations are used to prevent and help control several diseases in our area.  Your pet’s vaccine needs will be discussed with you at the annual wellness visit.

Canines Vaccinations:

  • Rabies

  • DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parvo, parainfluenza)

  • Bordetella

  • Leptospirosis

  • Lyme disease

Feline Vaccinations:

  • Rabies

  • FVRCP (rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia)

  • Chlamydia

  • FeLV (Feline leukemia)

Parasite Screening, Treatment, and Prevention:

We recommend annual fecal testing of all pets. In high risk cases, deworming is recommended. The veterinarian will discuss deworming strategies with you at your pet’s office visit.

Flea/tick prevention and treatment is offered at our hospital. We will be sure to discuss what is most appropriate for your pet.

We also do yearly heartworm testing to ensure your pet is protected.  We will be sure to discuss appropriate prevention at your pet’s office visit.

Microchipping:

For permanent identification of your pet we recommend microchipping. The process is quick and easy and once performed you will receive instructions on registering your pet.  If your pet is separated from you, the microchip can be scanned by veterinary hospitals and shelters all over the country and an ID is made through a national registry. You would then be contacted and reunited with your beloved pet. The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and remains in place.
